About Sarah and the Surgery

Sarah needs a new back:Sarah has struggled with chronic back pain and degenerative disc disease for 20 years. Now in her 30’s, Sarah spent much of 2007 in bed, unable to do the things she is so passionate about. Even caring for her kids has been difficult and has required the support of friends, family and the church community. She’s gone through every medical and chiropractic procedure possible, with the exception of one:

The Maverick – Total Disk Replacement.

Sarah’s surgeon has recommended she take this final and defining step with her two severely herniated discs. Essentially, her damaged discs would be cut away and would be replaced with titanium prosthetics.People’s lives are being transformed by this procedure, but Sarah’s health insurance company has denied the procedure through 3 appeals. The insurance company considers total disc replacement to be an experimental surgery even though it’s been used in Europe for a decade with staggering success.Having the herniated discs replaced would essentially be giving Sarah a new back and her life back. This surgery will have a life-changing impact on Sarah, her kids, and her family as a whole. It can bring an end to the depression and anxiety that comes with chronic back pain. The estimated total cost to have the surgery done is $32-36,000. That includes roughly $25,000-$27,000 dollars for the surgery and $5,000-$9,000 for travel and accomodations in France, where the surgery would take place. Sarah would need to be in the hospital in France for about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. Any support you can provide toward the $36,000 goal is truly appreciated.
